The Northeast Corridor
This is an electrified railroad line in the Northeast megalopolis of the United States. Owned primarily by Amtrak, it runs from Boston in the north to Washington, D.C., in the south. Tracks are standard gauge (4 ft 8 1/2 in (1435mm) and the overhead electrification is 25 kV AC at 60 Hz (Boston–New Haven), 12.5 kV AC at 60 Hz (New Haven–New York) and 12 kV AC at 25 Hz (New York–Washington). Some trains reach 150 mph (240 km/h) on certain sections.
The corridor is used by many Amtrak trains, including the high-speed Acela intercity trains, and several long-distance trains. Most of the corridor also has frequent commuter rail service, operated by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA), CT Rail, Metro-North Railroad, Long Island Rail Road, New Jersey Transit, Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) and Maryland Area Rail Commuter (MARC). Northeast Corridor trains enter New Jersey from New York Penn, NY and there are stations at Secaucus Junction, Newark Penn, Newark Liberty International Airport, North Elizabeth, Elizabeth, Linden, Rahway, Metropark, Metuchen, Edison, New Brunswick, Jersey Avenue, Princeton Junction, Hamilton and Trenton Transit Center before exiting the state into Pennsylvania.

- AMTRAK Northeast Regional - Northeast Corridor trains enter New Jersey from New York Penn, NY and call at Newark Penn, Newark Liberty International Airport, Metropark, New Brunswick, Princeton Junction and Trenton.
- AMTRAK - Long Distance trains on Northeast Corridor - Philadelphia is served by several long-distance trains on the Northeast Corridor route including the Cardinal to Chicago, the Carolinian to Charlotte, the Crescent to New Orleans, the Palmetto to Savannah, the Silver Meteor to Miami, the Vermonter to St. Albans, Vermont, the Keystone Service to Harrisburg, the Pennsylvanian to Pittsburgh and the Silver Star to Miami. Station calls in New Jersey are Newark Penn, Newark Liberty International Airport, Metropark, New Brunswick, Princeton Junction and Trenton.
- NJ Transit Rail Operations - Operates commuter rail services in New Jersey, with most service centered on transportation to and from New York City, Hoboken, and Newark.
- Meadowlands Rail Line - Hoboken Terminal - Secaucus Junction - Meadowlands See Obscure or Sparse Passenger Services NJ1.
- Pascack Valley Line - Runs from Hoboken Terminal to Spring Valley, NY, entering New York state after Montvale.

- The Atlantic City line runs from Philadelphia 30th Street (Pennsylvania) to Atlantic City, entering New Jersey once the Delaware River is crossed.
- Port Authority Transit Corporation (PATCO) - The PATCO Speedline, signed as the Lindenwold Line in Philadelphia and commonly referred to as the PATCO High Speed Line, connects 15–16th & Locust station, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with Lindenwold in Camden County, New Jersey. The 14.2 mile (22.9 km) route is standard gauge 4 ft 8+1⁄2 in (1,435 mm) and the electrification is third rail, 750 V DC.
- The Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) - A 13.8-mile (22.2 km) rapid transit system in the northeastern New Jersey cities of Newark, Harrison, Jersey City, and Hoboken, as well as Lower and Midtown Manhattan in New York City. Electrification is third rail, 600V DC.

- Newark Light Rail – There are two sections. The Newark City Subway, and the Broad Street Line which operates from Newark Penn to Newark Broad Street via Washington Park and Riverfront Stadium.
- River Line - Connects the cities of Camden and Trenton following the east bank of the Delaware River.
Monorail
- AirTrain Newark - This is a 3-mile (4.8 km) monorail people mover system connecting the terminals and parking facilities at Newark Liberty International Airport with trains at Newark Liberty International Airport Station on the Northeast Corridor. It is due to be replaced by a cable driven system in 2030.
Tourist Lines
- Delaware River Railroad Excursions - Excursions for 16 miles (25.7 km) Phillipsburg to Riegelsville. Speeders (draisines) may operate south of Riegelsville to Milford in conjunction with the Milford Alive festival, but this event is not happening in 2025.
- Black River and Western Railroad - Excursions between Flemington and Ringoes.
- Cape May Seashore Lines - Cape May Seashore Lines offer two excursion services: a 30-mile (48 km) round trip between Richland and Tuckahoe along the Beesley's Point Secondary railroad line and a 14-mile (23 km) round trip between Rio Grande, Cold Spring Village, and Cape May City along the Cape May Branch (service between Rio Grande and Cape May is suspended due to theft of track material and damage along the Cape May Branch).
- New Jersey Museum of Transportation - The museum runs excursion trains on a 3 ft (914 mm) narrow gauge tourist railroad named the Pine Creek Railroad. It comprises a loop track within Allaire State Park at Wall Township. Note that US VPN may be needed to access the website.
- Whippany Railway Museum - The Museum is located in Whippany, Morris County. Excursions operate for 45-60 minutes on Morristown and Erie Railway tracks.
