Rail Operators
There are various Amtrak services in Washington:
- long-distance: between the Coast Starlight between Seattle and Los Angeles, the Empire Builder between Seattle / Portland (Oregon) and Chicago
- international / regional : between Eugene (Oregon) and Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada) he Northeast Corridor and places in Virginia.
Sound Transit
Sound Transit operates commuter rail services on two routes between Everett and Seattle and Seattle and Tacoma and two light-rail routes around Seattle.

Recent and Future Changes
Recent Changes
on 10 May 2025 SOUND Transit opened a 5.4km extension of Line 2, running from the previous terminus at Redmond Technology and adding two new stations at Marymoor Village and Downtown Redmond.
The initial 10.6km line that runs northeast from South Bellevue to Redmond Technology opened on April 27 2024. The final 6.4km section of Line 2, which will run west from South Bellevue across Lake Washington to International District/Chinatown in the city centre via Mercer Island and Judkins Park, is also scheduled to open within the next 12 months.
