Rail Operators

  • AMTRAK - AMTRAK lines from Chicago, Illinois cross Indiana en route to Cincinnati, Cleveland, Detroit, Port Huron and Grand Rapids.
  • Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District - This is the Chicago South Shore and South Bend Railroad. It runs 90.1 miles from Millennium Station, Chicago, Illinois to South Bend Airport,South Bend, Indiana, crossing the state border just west of Hammond Gateway which is at 20.8 miles. The railway is standard gauge and electrified at 1500V DC Overhead.

Tourist Lines

  • Whitewater Valley Railroad - Operates two routes: the Valley Flyer, from Connersville to Metamora, while the Metamora Local carries passengers south on a 2-mile (3.2 km) excursion.
  • Nickel Plate Heritage Railroad - The Nickel Plate Express operates on 12.4 miles of track between Hobbs Station at Forest Park in Noblesville and Atlanta.
  • Indiana Railway Museum - The museum operates the 9.5-mile stretch of the line between French Lick and Cuzco station as a heritage railroad known as French Lick Scenic Railway. A section of track with no regular passenger service separates it from the section used by the Spirit of Jasper (see next entry) but also see Obscure or Sparse Passenger Services IN2.
  • The City of Jasper Park & Recreation Department - The Department operate a heritage train between Jasper and Huntingburg called the The Spirit of Jasper. In previous years excursions have run north of Jasper to Cuzco, but it is not clear if they run in 2025. See previous entry for Obscure or Sparse Passenger Service.
  • Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum - Located in North Judson, most Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum services operate on a former Chesapeake & Ohio route between North Judson and English Lake (4.2 miles). See also Obscure or Sparse Passenger Services IN4.
