- California Zephyr The train enters the state from Illinois at the Burlington bridge over the Mississppi passing through Burlington, Mt. Pleasant, Ottumwa, Osceola and Creston before exiting the state east of Omaha, Nebraska.
- Southwest Chief The train enters the state from Illinois at the Mississippi river bridge east of Fort Madison, the only station stop, before exiting the state with the next call at La Plata, Missouri.
Tourist Lines
- Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad. Normally operates 7.6 miles (12.2 km) between Boone and Fraser Siding. The 3.7 mile section beyond Fraser Siding is normally used only by the Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad's dinner and picnic/dessert trains, and Saturday "motorcar rides" as advertised. - Midwest Central Railroad a 3 ft (914 mm) narrow gauge heritage railroad operating within the confines of Mount Pleasant, Iowa's McMillan Park. The mainline track is a 1 mile (1.6 kilometer) loop with traffic moving in a clockwise direction.
- The Midwest Electric Railway is a trolley operation located on the grounds of the Midwest Old Threshers Reunion in Mt. Pleasant. Trolleys are regularly operated on a 2.5 mile (4.0 km) loop surrounding the organisation's campgrounds.
